What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life?

Surviving for half a century is quite the accomplishment, especially considering how I abused my body when I was young. I also still have use of most of my mental faculties, which assists me with functions such as balancing my checkbook and writing. 

How has your upbringing influenced your writing?

My parents were teachers and encouraged me to read and think for myself.

When and why did you begin writing?

I’ve been telling stories since I was old enough to talk. I’m a very good liar.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

When I was in college, I took a creative writing course in college, and enjoyed writing.

When did you first know you could be a writer? 

When I was in college and enjoyed writing.

What inspires you to write and why?

People. I love watching people work through problems.

What genre are you most comfortable writing?

Historical fantasy and dark fantasy.

What inspired you to write your first book?

Mostly the epic fantasies I was reading at the time.

Who or what influenced your writing once you began?

Tanith Lee, Stephen King.

What do you consider the most challenging about writing a novel, or about writing in general?

It’s like a giant word puzzle, or a 70K essay. I love working through the themes to make a story resonate with the readers.

Did writing this book teach you anything and what was it?

I learned a lot about the political intricacies of the Spanish Civil War.

Do you intend to make writing a career?

Yes.

Have you developed a specific writing style?

Most people refer to my style as lyrical, and I think that fits very nicely.

What is your greatest strength as a writer? 

My ability to dig into the emotional depth of characters.

What is your favorite quality about yourself?

My sense of humor.

What is your least favorite quality about yourself?

When my sense of humor turns rancid and becomes sarcasm.

What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why?

It changes daily depending on my mood. Today it is: “My weaknesses have always been food and men—in that order.” –Dolly Parton

T. Frohock has turned her love of dark fantasy and horror into tales of deliciously creepy fiction. She currently lives in North Carolina where she has long been accused of telling stories, which is a southern colloquialism for lying.
